How does the PacSana Smart Bracelet capture exercise?

Like all consumer fitness devices, the PacSana Smart Bracelet is restricted in the type of exercise that is captured accurately.

The US Physical Activity Council provides this breakdown of sports participation among older adults:

  • Walking: 62% - Walking is the most popular activity among older adults due to its low impact and accessibility.

  • Swimming: 28% - Swimming is favored for its cardiovascular benefits and low impact on joints.

  • Golf: 20% - Golf is popular for its social aspects and moderate physical activity.

  • Cycling: 15% - Many older adults enjoy cycling for its cardiovascular benefits and the ability to explore the outdoors.

  • Yoga and Pilates: 12% - These activities are increasingly popular for their benefits in flexibility, balance, and mental well-being.

  • Tennis: 10% - Tennis is enjoyed for its physical and social benefits.

  • Pickleball: 8% - Pickleball is rapidly growing in popularity among older adults due to its ease of play and social aspects.

Of these, the PacSana Smart Bracelet measures walking, golf, tennis and pickleball accurately - any sport that includes step activity. Swimming, yoga and Pilates are also counted but with reduced accuracy. Each is measured both inside and outside of the home.

Active Minutes, i.e. non-sedentary time, includes all step activity. Brisk walking or running are needed to qualify as Exercise Minutes, i.e. moderate to vigorous exercise.
